I find watching Mark doing sessions is both educational and inspiring. The main things I really love are the stories, metaphors, and reframes he uses. I just have not found anyone else who is such a master at these skills and so generous with sharing them!
I feel like I’m learning a new reframe or story or metaphor all the time and it’s actually got my brain thinking so much in that way that I’m finding it easier and easier to come up with my own. Yesterday, in fact, a client I have helped with guilt, sleep, quitting smoking, and is now in for reducing her drinking, said to me, “I love your stories.” I thought afterwards myself, “Wow that’s nice! I’m guess I’m learning well from the best then.”
I also find the explanations of what Mark is doing really helpful and often pause the video to take it in. It allows me to pick up things that I otherwise miss, it gives me understanding and because it’s written on the screen, I feel like I also retain it better.
On an inspirational level, I find watching or even listening to Mark keeps me motivated and increases my confidence significantly. This may sound hilarious, but I actually tell myself that I’m just going to channel Mark Tyrell in my own Carolina way. I do chuck in Milton Erickson and a few others in there too! Great work, please keep it up.
